![]() | Board Development: What works, what doesn't, and why? Whether you are new to the nonprofit world or have helped to shape it, the workshop provided participants an opportunity to learn and share ideas on how to develop a nonprofit board. ![]() New Trier Township Trustee Alan Goldberg, who helped coordinate the event with Township Staff, welcomed participants. ![]() Keynote speaker, Valerie M. Plomin, Ph.D., of Active Solutions & Knowledge, LLC provided an overview of "Board Trends for the 21st Century." Dr. Plomin noted that the largest age category of people who volunteer is 35-44 years. The next largest are those aged 55-65 years. The breakout sessions provided an opportunity to discuss best practices on recruitment for specific demographics, board structure, and how to develop special projects to engage and retain volunteers.
