The Cook County Assessor's Office does all assessing in Cook County. Property is reassessed every three years. Assessment information is available at www.CookCountyAssessor.com. Tax billing is done by the Cook County Treasurer's Office. Taxes are collected one year in arrears and bills are issued twice each year, in the spring and fall. Further information is available at www.CookCountyTreasurer.com. The Township Assessor provides a variety of services and acts as a liaison between the taxpayer and the Cook County Assessor's Office. TAXPAYER EXEMPTIONS INCLUDE: Homeowner Exemption - • Available to residents who own and live in the home as of Jan 1 of the year taxes are being paid for. • Renews automatically once in place unless a sale is recorder. Senior Citizen Exemption - • Available to owners who are 65 in the year for which you are paying taxes. • Reduces the Equalized Assessed Value by $4000, saving you as much as $300 in taxes. • Renews automatically once in place unless a sale is recorded. Senior Citizen Freeze Exemption - • Available to seniors with a household income under $55,000. • Freezes the assessed value (not the taxes). • Provides inflation protection from rising home values. • Must be applied for annually. Long-Time Homeowner Exemptions - 1.) Available to owners who have occupied the property for 10 years or more and have a household income under $75,000. Limits the amount of assessment increase that is applied annually to 7%. 2.) Available to owners who have occupied the property for 10 years or more and have a household income between $75,000 and $100,000. Limits the amount of assessment increase that is applied annually to 10% Veteran's Homeowner Exemptions - 1.) Returning Veterans' Homeowner Exemption is available to veterans returning from active duty in an armed conflict. Provides a one time $5000 reduction in the Equalized Assessed Value. Must be applied for upon return home. 2.) Disabled Veterans' Standard Homeowner Exemption Provides a reduction in Equalized Assessed Value to veteran with a service connected disability of 50% or more certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs. Amount of exemption varies from $2500 to $5000. Must be applied for annually. Disabled Persons' Homeowner Exemption - Provides a $2000 reduction in Equalized Assessed Value. Must be applied for annually. |
