Award-Winning Filmmaker To Kick-Off New Trier Township’s 160th Anniversary Celebration


Winnetka, March 19, 2010 – The New Trier Township government annual town meeting on April 13, 2010 will serve as the kick-off of the 160th Anniversary Celebration with keynote speaker John Newcombe. An award-winning filmmaker and producer of "Winnetka Story",, his keynote presentation will regale historical happenings and introduce personalities of yesteryear.
"John’s passion for the history of the North Shore coupled with his sense of humor are clearly visible in the feature length documentary of Winnetka and the North Shore," noted Patricia B. Cantor, Supervisor. "We are thrilled that he will bring history to life through both his remarks and showing of segments of the film such as the "The Wayside Inn" and "Track Depression."
The Winnetka native, who currently lives in a suburb of Los Angeles, attended Crow Island Elementary School, Faith Hope Catholic School, New Trier High School and DePaul University. An accomplished cartoonist, Newcombe’s nationally syndicated comic strip Zack Hill can found in over 100 newspapers and on line at 
The public is encouraged and welcome to attend. In addition to the keynote presentation, the Historical Societies of Winnetka, Wilmette, Glencoe and Kenilworth will provide informational displays on the history of the Villages within the Township. Township residents will be honored for their community service and reports from Township Officials will be given on the activities and impact of Township government.
The meeting will be held at the Takiff Center at 999 Green Bay Road in Glencoe. The Takiff Center is located at the site of the former North School. Parking is available behind the building and is accessible to northbound traffic by turning right just past the intersection of Green Bay Road and Vernon Avenue.
