At the monthly Board of Trustees meeting, Martin Houlihan, a founding partner, appraiser and consultant at Byrnes, Houlihan and Walsh, LLC, Chicago, was sworn in to serve as the new Assessor for the township.
Mr. Houlihan, who is a certified general real estate appraiser and a designated Member of the Appraisal Institute (MAI) having attained the highest achievement available to an appraiser, has over 15 years experience conducting commercial, industrial and residential appraisals.
Mr. Houlihan will be serving the remainder of JoAnn Shrier Gordon’s term, the previous Assessor who relinquished the position when she moved out of the township. In Cook County, Township Assessors serve part-time to provide a variety of services and act as a liaison between the taxpayer and the Cook County Assessor’s Office.
When asked about his goals as assessor, Houlihan stated, "I intend to ensure that assessments in New Trier Township are fair and equitable, to help the citizens of the township better understand the complexity of the property tax appeal process and to provide expertise and service to the community in which I reside."

The New Trier Township Clerk, Jerome Hoynes, performed the swearing in ceremony, which was witnessed by the Board of Trustees and Mr. Houlihan’s family.
