New Trier Township Assessor Martin Houlihan to Step Down— JoAnn Shrier Gordon to Return as Interim Assessor

New Trier Township Assessor Martin Houlihan will step down from his elected office as of Monday, June 17, 2013. Until a new Assessor has been appointed by the Township Board of Trustees, the recently retired Assessor JoAnn Shrier Gordon will serve as Interim Assessor.
When Ms. Shrier Gordon moved outside the Township last year prior to the expiration of her term, Mr. Houlihan was asked by the New Trier Citizens League to replace her. He was honored by the suggestion and subsequently was appointed to fill the void. Mr. Houlihan ultimately ran for a full term in the April, 2013 election cycle. His experience as a commercial real estate appraiser made him an ideal candidate for the Assessor’s job. Unfortunately, Mr. Houlihan has found that the current demands of his principle place of employment preclude him from spending the time necessary to serve as Township Assessor.

Mr. Houlihan shared, "The work of the Assessor’s Office has been very rewarding, and it is with great regret that I find the necessity to resign." Ms. Shrier Gordon graciously agreed to serve as Interim Assessor while the Board of Trustees is in the process of selecting a candidate to replace Mr. Houlihan. Township Supervisor Paddie Brennen stated, "JoAnn’s experience in the role along with the high standards established by Deputy Assessor Lois Cross give me every confidence that there will be uninterrupted service delivered by the Office of the Assessor during this brief period of transition. We are all quite fond of Marty, and we wish him well."
