New Trier Township Enhances On-Line Access to Township Government

October 18, 2010 - In a move to improve public access to Township government and keep pace with changing technology, New Trier Township has updated its website www.newtriertownship.com. The new site provides quick and easy access to the wide range of on-line information and services provided by the Township, while incorporating a more current design and user-friendly features. With a few simple clicks, visitors can browse budget documents and meeting minutes, search a listing of social service providers, sign-up to receive email notifications of Township news, and view a calendar of meetings and events.

"While technology will never replace the compassionate, human touch needed with many of the services we provide, residents increasingly are tapping into a widening network of on-line resources," noted Patricia B. Cantor, Supervisor. In the last five years, average monthly visits to the Township’s website have increased 127%.

"With an increasing number of visitors to the site our goal was to make the site aesthetically pleasing while being intuitive in its functionality," explained Cantor. The new drop-down menu allows easy navigation and a search tool enables a visitor to find specific information by simply entering keywords. Among some other changes are deeper, more content-rich information on Township services and programs as well as an expanded number of resources and useful on-line links. Furthermore, using a content management system, Township staff can now maintain the website without having to rely on outside resources.   "This change in process will result in an up-to-date and relevant website that meets the needs of our residents," Cantor added.

New Trier Township was among the first Township’s in Illinois to create an on-line presence, launching its site, www.newtriertownship.com, in February 1999. It has become a valuable tool for residents to learn about their Township government and the services it provides. Some of the most popular pages of the site include:

·       The Pantry and Financial Assistance Programs
·       The Assessor’s Office with information on property tax matters including appeals and reassessments
·       The rich-storied history of the Township which is featured in an on-line book
·       The photo gallery of Township events

Moving forward, Cantor noted the new site provides the Township with a public service opportunity to keep residents informed in the new era of digital citizenship. She encourages residents to sign-up for E-news, an opt-in service, allowing residents to tailor the service to meet their needs by selecting only the categories of information that are of interest to them.
