New Trier Township Peer Jury Scholarship Awarded to Loyola Academy Student

PeerJuryScholarship 2011

Lauren Miller, a senior at Loyola Academy, was selected to receive the 2011 New Trier Township Government Peer Jury Scholarship. The award was presented at the Annual Town Meeting in April by Community Services Administrator Brian Leverenz.

"Lauren’s participation in the Peer Jury program has been exemplary," he said. "She asks good questions of offenders and their parents, she helps juries arrive at consensus on an appropriate sentence and she is a leader among her peers," he added. In making the presentation, Leverenz explained that recipients are selected based on their quality and leadership in the Peer Jury program, academic performance, and an essay written to describe their peer jury experience.

The Township’s Peer Jury program was created in 1998 by a collaboration of the Township Board, police departments from Wilmette, Kenilworth, Winnetka, Northfield, and Glencoe, public and private high schools in the area and social service agencies that serve the township. The scholarship was established to mark the 10th anniversary of the program and to recognize outstanding peer jurors. Past recipients of the Peer Jury Scholarship included: Kelsey Creamer of Kenilworth, a student at the University of Arizona; and Kristina Spillers of Wilmette, a student at Auburn University. Lauren, a resident of Kenilworth, will attend Stanford University in the Fall.
