New Trier Township Recognized for Best Illinois Township Government Communications

MightyMessage2011

New Trier Township won top honors in the 2011 Township Officials of Illinois Mighty Message competition with the overall "Mighty Message Award" and two first place finishes in the Publications and Website categories. The annual competition recognizes excellence in marketing and communications among the 1,432 Townships in the State of Illinois.

"We were honored to be presented with these awards that recognize Township’s that effectively communicate and create understanding of Township government," said Supervisor Patricia Cantor. "New Trier Township has worked diligently to increase communication efforts on all fronts, and we believe these awards reflect our dedication to
providing information that empowers our residents to take advantage of township services."

The township’s commemorative 160th history book A Journey in Time was recognized as the best Township Publication. Judges noted that the township’s history book is the result of significant time, effort and dedication, and it is easily accessible on the township’s website. The book was created by a team that included New Trier Township Clerk Jerome Hoynes, Winnetka resident and Township volunteer Harriet Hahn and Communications Director Karen Spillers.

Spillers also worked with Supervisor Patricia Cantor and Trustee Paddie Brennen and a team from American Eagle to redesign the Township website www.newtriertownship.com that was recognized as the top website among Township’s in Illinois. In 2010 the site was redesigned to make it more intuitive. This involved designing a new look, feel and structure, as well as simplifying content to make it easier to read online. In addition, a Content Management System now allows Township staff to keep the site up to date and manage maintenance at a lower cost.
