Re-Review of Board of Appeals Decisions December 4-6, 2017 Appeals to PTAB May Now Be Filed
The Cook County Board of Review (BOR) has mailed its decisions regarding the 2017 New Trier assessment appeals it received. New Trier property owners who filed timely assessment appeals with the BOR, i.e., on or before September 26, 2017, who are dissatisfied with the BOR’s decision may file a Request for Re-Review in the period from December 4 to December 6. You may also appeal BOR decision to the Illinois Property Tax Appeals Board (PTAB), 30-days after written decision.

New Trier Township Announces Spring 2017 Children's Book Drive
New Trier Township is one of a growing number of book collection drive partners, working with community members, groups, and businesses to collect new and gently used books for thousands of at-risk children in Illinois, whose families are living at or below poverty level. The books we collect are picked-up, sorted and distributed by Bernie's Book Bank, a Lake Bluff based non-profit organization dedicated to reading readiness for all children.

First Installement Property Tax Bills Due March 1, 2017
First installment property tax bills for tax year 2016 were mailed by the Cook County Treasurer January 27. According to Jan Churchwell, New Trier Township Assessor, “Property taxes are paid in two installments. The first installment bill… is fifty-five percent (55%) of a property's total tax bill for the previous year, and is due on March 1, 2017.”

The Cook County Assessor’s office has announced that renewal forms for 2016 Senior Citizen Exemptions will be mailed on Monday, January 9, 2017. According to the Cook County Assessor’s office, renewals for the 2016 Senior Citizen Exemptions should be filed by Wednesday, February 8, 2017.

The Cook County Treasurer has announced that the due date for payment of the First Installment of Tax Year 2016 Cook County Real Estate taxes will be Wednesday, March 1, 2017. The Cook County Treasurer also announced that Tax Year 2016 First Installment tax bills will be mailed to taxpayers by January 31, 2017.

Text-A-Tip- Usage Report at 6-Months
Over six months have passed since the public launch of Text-A-Tip in New Trier Township on March 14, 2016. The last update report generated during the summer months showed diminished usage. As school resumed during late August/early September, a slight uptick in system usage occurred, taking our grand total to 97 clients that generated 1,027 texts for the period covering 3/14/16—9/30/16.

Summer Children's Book Collection Drive at the Township Office
New Trier Township is partnering with Bernie’s Book Bank to collect new and gently used children’s books from June 27- August 12, 2016. The Township goal is to acquire 2,000 books by August 12, to benefit at-risk children. Bernie’s Book Bank collects, processes and distributes quality new and gently used children’s books to significantly increase book ownership among at-risk infants, toddlers and school-age children throughout Chicagoland.

Text-A-Tip 60 Day Report
In March 2016, New Trier Township and Lead (Linking Efforts Against Drugs) launched Text-A-Tip, a confidential, text-based system providing an extra layer of counseling support for students in grades 5-12. The preliminary 60-day usage report is now available to the public. In our 90-day analysis, LEAD will provide specific breakdowns on the topical trends (reasons students are using the Text-A-Tip system). We anticipate more refined usage results at the 90-day mark as all schools come online.​

New Trier Township Assessor’s Office Announces Higher Tax Saving for Some Disabled Veterans
Under a new law, veterans who were severely injured while serving their country will no longer be required to pay property taxes in Illinois. The minimum qualifying level of disability for lesser exemption amounts has also been lowered to 30%. A letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs dated after 1/1/2015 is required to verify the veteran’s level of disability.

Empty Bowls will be taking place at Oakton Community College on Saturday, December 5 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free. Donation for a handmade bowl is $15. Cook County Board of Review Property Assessment Appeals Open September 14th
New Trier Township property owners have the opportunity to appeal the 2015 assessed value of their property. Even those who have already appealed their assessment to the Cook County Assessor have the right to appeal again at the Cook County Board of Review. The appeals process begins Monday, September 14 and closes Tuesday, October 13. Reductions in assessed value received this year will first be reflected on the 2016 second installment bills, payable August, 2016.

Township Angel Fund Seeking Donations
The New Trier Township Angel Fund is currently in need of donors. The Angel Fund, a registered 501(C)3 organization supported solely by donations from private citizens, various faith groups and a number of civic organizations, provides emergency monetary support for residents to pay for food, shelter, medical care and other necessities. The Fund is currently lower than usual at this point in the fiscal year. Need has been consistent and additional applications are anticipated.

Families struggling to pay the high cost of child care may be eligible to apply for a New Trier Township financial assistance program that helps low and moderate income families pay for child care expenses while the adults are working, looking for work, or in an approved training program. To be eligible for the program, an applicant’s income must be within certain guidelines. The program has been funded by New Trier Township government since 1993.

Vehicle owners in the unincorporated areas of Cook County, which includes a small portion of New Trier Township in Winnetka, may now purchase the 2011 Cook County Vehicle Sticker at the New Trier Township office.
