September 10th Deadline Approaches for New Trier Township Social Service Funding Opportunities


WINNETKA, August 27, 2010 – New Trier Township Government invites providers of social services to New Trier Township residents to apply for governmental funding of their programs. The deadline for consideration is September 10, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
"New Trier Township Government is committed to enhancing the quality of life for township residents," notes Patricia B. Cantor, Supervisor. "We award grants to social service providers to ensure that residents have access to needed programs that impact their well-being." Supported programs range from youth drop in centers and senior services to the well being of individuals and families and crisis intervention as well as prevention services The Township also provides financial support to residential, vocational and respite programs, as well as advocacy and inclusion programs for persons with disabilities. In Fiscal Year 2011 New Trier Township government budgeted $1.09 million to fund 45 programs. The Township publishes a list of funded agencies and the grant amount awarded on its website.
To be eligible for funding an agency must be a 501(c)3 organization, direct services to Township residents, have a firm sense of mission, and have a well-organized management team. The deadline to submit an application for Fiscal Year 2012 is Friday, September 10, 2010 at 4:00 p.m.
Applications are reviewed through a formal funding process driven by an advisory committee, made up of volunteers from the community, who carefully review all applications to make sure that they meet the Township's criteria for funding of grant applicants. Following the review process, the advisory committee makes recommendations to the Supervisor and Board of Trustees. The public is invited, and encouraged to attend the hearings, which are usually held in November and December.
