Program Guidelines & Frequently Asked Questions

Am I Eligible For Emergency Assistance?

New Trier Township residents--individuals or families--who are facing an emergency financial challenge (such as job loss, illness, disability or other unanticipated crisis) and who meet net income eligibility guidelines may be eligible to receive assistance.

What Types of Financial Needs Can be Covered?

Emergency Assistance is typically used to assist with housing, rent, utilities and medical bills, but other necessary expenses can be considered.

How Do I Apply?

Contact Social Services Administrator Jeanne Winsted Rosser at jwinstedrosser@newtriertownship.com or 847-446-8201 for an appointment to have a confidential assessment of your eligibility. The Emergency Assistance application process involves a written application and submission of requested financial and personal information to determine eligibility. The documentation required is listed on the application, which is available through the Social Services Administrator.

How Soon Can I Expect To Receive The Funds I Need?

The Township works to administer Emergency Assistance in an expeditious manner. Disbursement of funds will depend upon an applicant's compliance with the application process. Every effort is made to process applications promptly. Payment is made directly to vendors; for instance, payment would be issued to the utility, landlord or the medical provider, depending upon the specific need. The Township Emergency Assistance program does not typically make payments directly to an applicant.

Are There Other Requirements?

Citizenship or legal residency is required for eligibility for Emergency Assistance, General Assistance and most but not all Township assistance programs.
