![]() | For many people in New Trier Township transportation can mean the difference between being an active member of one's community or becoming isolated and homebound. New Trier Township is dedicated to providing a variety of transit services to improve accessibility and mobility for eligible seniors and persons with disabilities. How To Apply For Services The application process is quite simple. Our Social Services Administrator is available to answer your questions and help determine which programs and services you are eligible for. To verify your eligibility as a senior, you must present proof of age and residency (driver's license, state ID, passport, or other official government-issued identification bearing your birth date and a photo.) For eligibility as a person with a disability you may present either an SSI or SSDI award letter. Mobility Plus applicants must have the certification of a physician. As a convenience, you may download these forms in advance, have your physician sign them and bring them to the Township Office. RTA Reduced Fare Program Dial-A-Ride Escorted Transportation Mobility Plus RTA Reduced Fare Program The RTA Reduced Fare Card enables seniors age 65 and over to ride Metra trains, Pace buses, and CTA trains and buses for free anywhere in the six-county RTA service area. Seniors can apply at the Township. Persons with disabilities may obtain an application to ride at a reduced fare. Learn more about the RTA Reduced Fare Program Dial-A-Ride A door-to-door taxi service that provides registered riders with discounted fares. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, residents call a designated taxi service, make a reservation for their trip, show their card to receive a reduced rate compliments of New Trier Township, and pay the reduced fare. Escorted Transportation A service for persons age 60 and older who require transportation and an escort to and from medical or dental appointments. Transportation is provided by trained volunteers of the North Shore Senior Center in their private automobiles. The person is picked up from his/her address, accompanied to a local medical office, and driven home at the end of the appointment. The service is available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All trips must occur within the Township and nearby towns. A minimal fee is billed to the user for each round trip. This program is a cooperative effort funded by New Trier Township and the North Shore Senior Center. Dial-A-Ride cardholders receive a reduced rate on this service. Mobility Plus A door-to-door transportation program for persons with severe mobility impairment who use a wheelchair or motorized scooter. Chicago Disability Transit provides rides 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in a lift-equipped van. Registered users receive a discount. Fees are paid by credit card or personal check at the time of the ride. Current regulations limit rides only between New Trier Township and the City of Chicago. There is no suburb to suburb service.
