Escorted Medical Transit
Escorted Transportation is a service for persons age 60 and older who require transportation and an escort to and from medical or dental appointments. Transportation is provided by trained volunteers of the North Shore Senior Center in their private automobiles.
How It Operates
The person is picked up from his/her address, accompanied to a local medical office, and driven home at the end of the appointment. The service is available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All trips must occur within the Township and nearby towns. A minimal fee is billed to the user for each round trip. This program is a cooperative effort funded by New Trier Township and the North Shore Senior Center. Dial-A-Ride participants receive a reduced rate on this service.
How To Apply For Services
The application process is quite simple. Our Community Service Administrator is available to answer your questions and help determine which programs and services you are eligible for. For eligibility as a person with a disability you must also present either an SSI or SSDI award letter, or the certification of a physician.
As a convenience, you may download the Dial-A-Ride application (PDF) in advance, have your physician sign them (for disability only) and bring them to the New Trier Township Office. You may sign up for Dial-A-Ride in person at the New Trier Township office in Winnetka. You must present photo identification and proof of residency at the time of application.
How To Use Escorted Transportation
Escorted service costs $12 per appointment. For persons registered with Dial-A-Ride, New Trier Township pays $6 of the total cost. The balance ($6) is billed to the user by the North Shore Senior Center.
